National Service Blog - Get In Get Out and Get Away 
Fascinated by this,Rupert was my father,killed in a car crash along with my mother in late “63,shortly after being interviewed by the Daily Express following the end of National Service.Many people have challenged me regarding his number,but as I understand it,the first million was for regulars?? He told me it was complete propaganda that he,an Old Etonian,and Victor Rix, a bakers roundsman from Tooting were pal”d up together and photographed together by everybody,,Sketch,Herald,Times.,The idea being “we”re all in this together”,were have I heard this before!! He went to Dunkirk,and was mentioned in dispatches,got off the beach after 3 days,ended up in his fathers regiment,the Devonshire,and finished up in Rangoon. He said to the “Express” in “63.,”not a very heroic life”.,,I think he,like thousands of others,led a very heroic life,for which,we can all be grateful
